What's your slogan?

SCRIPTURE: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."  Matthew 28:19-20

Introduction

What’s your slogan? If someone could sum up your entire life in a short, catchy phrase, what would it be? Companies spend millions of dollars on slogans because they know those words will define how people think of them. You know the slogans by heart:

·            “Just Do It” — Nike

·            “Have It Your Way” — Burger King

·            “Taste the Rainbow” — Skittles

·            “Like a Good Neighbor, State Farm is There” — State Farm

·            “I’m Lovin’ It” — McDonald’s

·            “Zoom Zoom Zoom” — Mazda

·            “What’s in Your Wallet?” — Capital One

·            "The Quicker Picker Upper-Bounty

These phrases stick because they capture an identity.

Think back to the Life Cereal commercial where two brothers didn’t want to try the cereal, so they gave it to little Mikey. When he liked it, the line was born: “Hey Mikey, he likes it!” That slogan carried weight because it was simple and memorable. Slogans aren’t meant to tell the whole story; they’re meant to leave an impression.

But here’s the question: does the slogan match the product? If a burger joint says “Have It Your Way” but serves you cold fries, we notice. If Allstate says, “You’re in good hands,” but won’t answer the phone, we get angry. The slogan has to line up with reality.

Every one of us is living with a slogan, whether we admit it or not. Some live by “He came, he took, and he achieved.” Others by “She believed, she gave, and she inspired.” Some by “He breaks hearts.” Others by “He has a big heart.” You may not have written your slogan down, but people are reading it every day in how you live.
